Penn U13's Vs. Penkridge
U13's Sunday 25/04/08 - Staffs League
Crazy Weather. It may have
rained overnight and whilst the sun tried to breakthrough it continued
to drizzle.
The pitch and field was
inspected and deemed fit to play - Let the season commence!.
Commence it did with a first
ball wicket from Danny Bargota and another by Aaron Patel in the forth
looked like we meant business.
Penkridge then steadied the
ship with a third wicket stand of 29 when Rachael took our third
wicket and given a couple of rain delays Penkridge reached 45 from a
reduced match of 14 overs.
We went to bat in positive
mood. Aaron Patel and Josh Heath opened and when Aaron fell Luke
Oakley replaced him to watch what was the Josh Heath show scoring freely
to reach the required total of 46 having scored 26 not out in 7.1 overs.
A good team performance,
plenty of support and good cricket - here's to a great season.
In his first match as captain
and his 26 not out the Man of the Match goes to Josh Heath

Having won
the toss Tom Choose to field,
Wolverhampton got off to a brisk start with 32 off the first 4 overs with
the loss of one wicket, and then with accurate bowling the next 3 overs
were retrained to Wolverhampton adding a net tally of 9. With good running
between the wicket Wolverhampton surged to add 62 runs net from their
remaining 12 overs. 5 byes.
Having set
the score, 218 – 3 (203 net) we took to the field.

Luke and
Amelia opened and with 12 runs scored after the first 2 overs looked
promising. The pressure to score runs then took its toll with 4 wickets
being lost in the next 2 overs and while runs were scored the net total
was pegged back. 29-4 (9 runs net) from 4 overs.
Again Tom
and Bhavesh got off to a good start with 19 off their first 2 overs but
were then constrained to 7 of the next 2. They played good shots but
invariably to fielders to prevent runs. Net 26 runs without loss. 26-0 (26
net)
Josh and
Aaron took to the wicket. Josh hitting a 6 off the first ball. The duo
negotiated good bowling and fielding to contribute 21 for the loss of one
wicket (16net)
A valiant
attempt but we came up short. 176 – 5 (151 net)

bowled well and took 2 wickets for only 9 runs, but,
The man of
the match award goes to Bhavesh Patel for a solid Batting performance and
excellent bowling.
Our
congratulations go to Wolverhampton for their victory in what was a good
example of running between the wickets in the indoor form of the game
U13 Penn Vs. Cannock
& Rugeley Match Report - Sat 15/03/08 7pm
The storm clouds
gathered and the torrential rain fell, it must be close to the cricket
season, bad light would have stopped play – good job for indoor cricket.
Having lost the toss we were put into bat,
Luke and Amelia opened and put on 19 in their 4 overs with the loss of
one wicket, which was unfortunate to have found the basket ball backboard
that kindly bounced to one of their fielders. (14 net)
Tom and Bhavesh played good shots –too good as they quickly went to
fielder preventing runs. They scored 16 runs with 10 extras and lost 2
wickets to add 16 to the total which stood at 130 after 8 overs.
Aaron and Josh negotiated good bowling and fielding and with 11 from
the final over took the total to 139net (164-5)

Given a limited total to defend and with the knowledge that in the
league we had lost 3 more wickets than C&R in previous matches, we had to
win or take at least 8 wickets to win our group.
Penn wasn’t about to disappoint,
Bhavesh opened with a wicket maiden, bowling their opener round his
legs, and in our first 4 overs had restricted C&R to 112 net,
In the next 3 overs C&R had only added 3 runs net having lost 2
wickets, however the 8th and 9th overs were telling as 17 runs were added
to their total.
Now at the business end of the game the team rose to the challenge.
A runout with the addition of 2 runs in the 10th over, only 2 runs
scored in the next with a contentious catch decision not given left C&R
needing 8 to win in the last.
In the last over Aaron bowled quickly and accurately and with a wicket
with the 4th ball pretty much sealed the result.
C&R finished on 132 net (157-5)
With good morale, exceptional fielding and bowling the team were
successful.
Only 2 extras were conceded in the innings with no byes!
