WMYCA – Under 10’s League Match
Penn CC v Wolverhampton CC – Sunday 13th April
The under 10’s Centenary Season kicked off with a local derby
against Wolverhampton. Penn’s captain, Kieran Patel won the toss and without
hesitation asked Wolverhampton to bat first.
Tight bowling throughout the innings by some of the Penn
bowlers contained Wolverhampton to 248 for 4 wickets (236 net), with just 10
of those runs coming off the bat. However, 7 wides and 5 no balls gifted
Wolverhampton with 28 runs plus 10 byes (total extras 38). This needs to be
addressed in the forthcoming training sessions.

Needing just above 3 runs per over without loosing a wicket
was required to win the game. Each player was instructed to bat sensibly
during the interval chat and they did exactly that. The first pair, Arrun
and Keetan put on 9 runs without losing a wicket.
The second pair, Rikesh and Sachin added 17 runs without
losing a wicket to move the score onto 226. Knowing that only 11 more runs
were required to win, our third pair, Kieran and Shyam played cautiously to
ensure that they did not lose their wickets. They moved the score onto 232
without losing a wicket.
The final pair, Dilesh and Kieron came to the wicket needing
just 5 more runs to win on the assumption that they don’t lose any wickets.
They added a further 13 runs without loosing a wicket to finish the game on
245 for 0 wickets therefore winning the game by 9 runs.
