Sun 1st XI - 22nd June v
Beacon (away)
We travelled to the quirky but nice beacon ground on sun under the
leadership of Dr Pepper Nightingale.
He lost the toss and we were asked to bowl. On a small ground we bowled very
well and restricted them to a very competitive 190 for 7 off 40 overs. The
star of the show was Alex Haynes who grabbed two catches and finished with
figures off 2 for 33. Other good performances came from Jazz Grewal (2 for
35), Col Sandeep Dhillon (2 for 17) and George Nock (1 for 44). A mention
must go to George Nock, Liam Clamp and Alex Haynes all of whom are learning
quickly and puuting in very good displays which shows they will be
successful Penn players in years to come.
In reply John Homer (40), Nick Hudson (87) and Richard Bradford (57) guided
us to the total with ease bringing into use the small boundaries on many
occassions.
A nice afternoons cricket and a good victory.
Sunday 2nd IX
- 8th June 2008 v. Fordhouses (Away)
Penn won the toss and elected to bat on a hard dry deck. Unfortunately due
to a few strange decisions and lack of application in the heat a poor total
of 98 all out of 30 overs was reached. With Manni Sadhev top scoring with a
dashing 34 before departing to their questionable opener. This total we all
felt to be 50 or 60 runs short of par but spirits were buoyant as we took
the field to bowl. The pitch as first thought was crumbly and rough at this
point with Richard Ball using it to his full effect to take 3 of the 4
Fordhouses wickets to fall, Jazz Grewal taking the other wicket. Although we
fielded well and held catches when they came our way Fordhouses reached the
total off 20.3 over’s. Not a good performance but a lot of positives can be
raised.
The Russian judge scores C.J. 9.2 for his superb diving in the field, eat
your heart out Christiano Ronaldo.
Penn 98 all out (1 point)
Fordhouses 98 for 4 (4 points)
