Sunday Cricket

12th August - v. Old Wulfs
We lost the toss and were asked to field.
James Thomas bowled a very lively opening spell without reward but is definitely a good prospect.
The game was changed but the spin twins of Richard Bradford and Brandon Lawlor. Old Wulfs were dazzled by the spitting, spinning ball. Bradford finished with figures of 8 - 2 - 22 - 3 and Lawlor 8 - 3 - 15 - 2. Old Wulfs struggled to 164.
In reply Brandon Lawlor (25) and James Grosvenor (13) batted well. It was, for the second time in the weekend, Lee Nightingale (82) who took the game away from Old Wulfs. The target was reached in the 29th over with 2 wickets remaining.

6th May - Staffs Cup Round 2  home v Cannock and Rugeley
Cannock won the toss and decided to bowl. Imran Sharrif looked good at the top of the order with 26. The main contributions came from Sandeep Dhillon (80) and Andy Brains (62). Penn reached a total of 236 after our 45 overs.

Penn never really took control of the game when fielding and due to no less than 7 dropped catches the game game down to the last over. Sandeep was bowling and produced and international class run out of his own bowling to win the match.
Penn march on into the 3rd round.

29th April - home v. Knowle & Dorridge (National Knockout Competition)

Knowle & Dorridge came with a very strong side tipped for the premier division title this year; this included Warwickshires 1st team wicket keeper from last year, Tony Frost.
They won the toss and decided to bat. After a good start they were all dismiissed for 226. There were three run outs and a very fine bowling display from Danny Smith (he has subsequently been offered a trial by Warwickshire on the back of this performance).
Penn started well in reply and were 60-1 after 10 overs.  Amit Sharma hit 35. Unfortunately a Penn collapse followed and despite a defiant 35 from Nick Benwell they slipped to 120 all out.
A bad start but there were many signs for optimism.
